Under Construction
Today I reacted in frustration to one of my children, didn’t finish my to-do list, arrived late at a meeting and discovered at 9pm that I never did my Bible study but left my book and Bible laying outside on the deck. If I gave it some more thought I’m sure I could think of a few more shortcomings that I exhibited today.
Yet, instead of defeat, I feel a renewed sense of hope.
Fortunately, I chose to attend a meeting tonight that I was tempted to skip. It was meeting number two for the evening. Had I chosen to skip out, I would have missed hearing the perfect verse to end my day. Perhaps I should adopt it as my life verse:
Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
The first time I recall hearing this verse was about ten years ago when it was the key passage of our pastor’s sermon. As I reflect today, I can see evidence of God’s work in my life. I can see how He’s grown me and taught me in certain areas. I can see that my faith has grown and that I don’t worry as much as I used to (which was every waking moment). I can see progress. Although I’m not as far along in this journey as I’d like to be, at least I’m not where I used to be.
And so, I’m encouraged. I just needed a fresh perspective.
I pray that you’ll find hope in trusting God. We may always be a work in progress, but we’re His work. I think that’s something to celebrate!
