Treadmill or Adventure?
I vote for adventure. Although lately I’ve been on an actual treadmill most days of the week, I much prefer an adventure. I’d rather be playing soccer, hiking, walking on the beach, skiing, swimming or playing outside with my kids.
Life on a treadmill isn’t much fun either… and I’ve been there. You know, when you wake up and feel like this day is just like the one before and the one after. They all seem to blur together because there’s more drudgery than living a dream.
So how do we get off the treadmill of life and start truly living? It’s all about focus. For me, it was through the death of my daughter that I learned to live. But it doesn’t have to be learned from something tragic or life altering. You can make a conscious decision in this very moment to view life differently.
Jesus tells us that He came so we could live an abundant life – not mediocre or mundane. But how do we change our circumstances?
We might not be able to change our circumstances, but we can change our thinking.
Change didn’t happen for me because I left my current life and moved on to something new. I continued the very life I had, but I looked for ways to spice it up. I looked to try new things and add a sense of adventure. I looked to confront my fears and work through them instead of running from them. And most of all, I engaged in a relationship with God and gave Him permission to work in my life.
Life with Him is always an adventure. He’s led me in ways that I would never have imagined on my own. He surprises me frequently with how He works things out. And best of all, He’s given me new eyes. I’m able to look at things differently – living in the moment and enjoying everyday life.
He’s calling you to do the same. I encourage you to accept His invitation and join Him in the adventure of a lifetime. You won’t be disappointed.
Then you will know that I am the LORD; those who hope in me will not be disappointed. Isaiah 49:23
