Once and Done
As I was preparing to take my son to preschool this morning, I asked him to go to the restroom to take care of business. He’d had plenty of fluids and I felt it was a prudent move in an effort to spare the teacher of a potential accident. However, his response to me was, “No, I pee-peed when I was at Pepe’s house yesterday,” as if to say that he’d taken care of it already. Although he’s only two, I know he grasps the concept that he goes to the bathroom multiple times throughout the day; however, he did not want to be bothered.
I apologize for using his discussion of bodily functions to make my point, but I couldn’t resist because it was a great illustration of how we view reading the Bible at times. We don’t want to make time… we took care of that yesterday when we were at church. Really, must I do it again?
The answer: No, you don’t have to do it again.
BUT, you’re missing out if you don’t!
God speaks to us through His Word, the Bible, so how are we going know His direction, or hear His encouragement, or exhibit Christ-like qualities if we’re not filling our hearts and minds with the message of the Bible? Please don’t get stuck in the “church is on Sunday” mentality and leave God where you left Him until the next week. We miss out on His blessings and His power when we do. We’ll only experience Him to the degree that we make Him part of our lives. So don’t be shy… invite Him to be part of your daily life and dig into the goodness of His Word. You never know where He might lead you.
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
