More than Bread and Water

Did you set a New Year’s Resolution related to health this year?  If so, how are you doing with it?  Are you still working at it with enthusiasm and excitement or have you lost interest?

You may have heard that I’m working on a new project this year related to my professional training as a dietitian.  But interestingly, I’m struck by how much of what I’m doing with food, exercise and weight are related to all the things I’ve been working on up to this point – joy and our personal journey with God.

Most notably, two of Jesus’ names have reminded me of who He is.  The Bread of Life and the Living Water.  Both paint a beautiful picture  of who He is.  He created us to have daily needs for bread and water to sustain physical life.  Likewise, we need Him to sustain our spiritual life.

Think about how you feel if you’re late getting a meal or have to skip a meal.  Our bodies remind us – grumbling stomachs, sluggishness, even headaches – and we seek food.

Do we notice how we feel (and behave) when we haven’t fed on Him? Do we go running to Him to refill ourselves?  Much of our attitude and perspective on life might be very different if we sought Him throughout each day like we seek food when we’re hungry.  He’s calling… and He invites us to feast with Him.  Don’t miss the richness of His blessing.  Pull up a chair and dine with Him – everyday!

Taste and see that the LORD is good. Psalm 34:7-9
