Bald Man in a Hair Net
I did a double take. A bald gentlemen in a hair net passed me as he made his way behind the deli counter at the local supermarket. “Really?” I thought. Why are they making him wear that ridiculous thing when he doesn’t have any hair?
I suppose it was a rule. But surely they’d missed the intent of it. Unlike hair, his baldness didn’t pose a risk to my food.
But what a great illustration of how we sometimes miss God’s intent for us. God gave us the Bible – a sort of rule book or guide – for how we should live. However, sometimes we miss the point. Sometimes we’re too busy looking at how others aren’t measuring up. Or, we may even be highly critical of ourselves because we messed up… again! God doesn’t give us direction for the sake of rules. He guides us for our own protection and because He wants us to experience His best for us. He also serves up a huge helping of grace to us when we don’t get it just right. And, He wants us share that grace with others, not judging them and criticizing them – but loving them!
During this season of celebration, let’s extend an extra measure of grace to those around us. Let’s get busy loving others (even those difficult to love) and we may just be surprised at the blessings we experience.
